Harvest Success!

A great big MAHALO to everyone who attended our Zoom harvest session on Saturday!  I know it was a busy holiday weekend, so if you were not available for the group harvest, no worries.  Review the video “Harvesting Vermicast” and harvest at your convenience.  Everyone on the Zoom session highly recommends you recruit some helping hands – it’s a big job.  Augusto is going to edit the Zoom footage for highlights and post it as a video, so you might want to review that, too, for inspiration.  Please send us photos for our slide show!

For those who were able to harvest their bin, please report your results. Augusto created a new form for the harvest and should be included as one of the options once you log in to our website. He has also added individual report of your food scraps you fed to your wormies which is available in your profile once you log in to our website.

If there is still food or excess bedding in your bin, you may decide to wait a few more weeks to let the worms eat down what’s left in the bin before you attempt the harvest.  It’s perfectly OK to delay.  Don’t add anything to the bin – just water lightly to keep them moist.

We are going to be active on the website throughout April with additional information on alternative worm systems, how to use all the beautiful vermicast you harvested, and – of course – to answer any questions you have and to fully support those of you who will be catching up with your first harvest/re-bed.

Learn to Worm has been a fun and educational experience for all of us, don’t you agree?  The wormies never cease to amaze me.  Not only are they superlative at decomposition, creating the best fertilizer on earth, and reproducing more worms, but they truly change the way you look at the world. Your thinking changes when you regard waste as resource, and over the last six months, you and your family explored first-hand the transition from environmental degradation to environmental restoration. Bravo for you!

Let’s keep the ball rolling – guys, we processed 3,349 pounds of food waste!  We welcome you to continue to report your feeding data.  Starting next month, we will be morphing to the Windward Community Worm Ohana and opening up to the public We’ll be conducting monthly Worm Workshops starting in May.

I can’t thank you enough for participating on this wild journey of discovery.  Please stay tuned and stay in touch!  There’s more to come.

Love you all,

Ms. Mindy
